Ingredients

  • 2 slices Bread Sourdough, ciabatta, or whole-grain work best for a hearty, flavorful sandwich.
  • 4-6 slices Sliced turkey Deli-style turkey or leftover roasted turkey adds richness and depth.
  • 2-3 slices Cheese (or 1/4 cup shredded) Choose a melty cheese like Swiss, cheddar, provolone, or mozzarella.
  • 1-2 tbsp Butter/Olive oil For grilling the bread to a perfect golden brown.
  • 1-2 tbsp Condiments Mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, or cranberry sauce to add extra flavor.

Optional toppings

  • As desired Lettuce, tomatoes, onions, avocado slices, or crispy bacon for added texture and flavor.

Instructions

Prepare the Bread

  • Start by spreading a thin layer of butter or olive oil on one side of each bread slice. This helps create that beautiful golden-brown crust when grilled. Use a good-quality butter or olive oil for the best flavor.

Layer the Sandwich

  • Place a slice of cheese on the unbuttered side of one bread slice. Next, layer on the sliced turkey evenly, ensuring each bite will have a satisfying amount of meat.
  • If you’re using any optional toppings like lettuce, tomato, or crispy bacon, now’s the time to add them! These ingredients add freshness and extra crunch that can take the flavor up a notch.
  • Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side facing out. Press gently to compact the sandwich slightly, helping everything hold together.

Grill to Golden Perfection

  • Heat a non-stick skillet or a griddle over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place your sandwich in the pan.
  • Grill for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted beautifully. If you prefer an extra crispy finish, you can press down gently with a spatula. For a panini-style sandwich, use a panini press to get those perfect grill marks!
  • Keep an eye on the heat, making sure it’s not too high, so the bread doesn’t burn before the cheese melts.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Once the sandwich is perfectly grilled, remove it from the pan and let it sit for about a minute. This helps the cheese set and keeps it from spilling out when you cut it.
  • Slice the sandwich into halves or quarters—however you like—and enjoy while it's still hot and melty!
